Diabetes and Rehabilitation: An Update of Emerging Trends for Diabetes Prevention and Management

The course is an introductory level course designed to help the participant understand diabetes, its types, causes and prevalence. The course materials and discussions will allow participants to develop a comprehensive understanding of how diabetes self management impacts daily life and how disease or disabilities can limit the person’s ability to self manage appropriately. Participants will explore through an experiential hands-on-approach and interactive presentations a framework for managing diabetes by addressing the 7-self care behaviors as recommended by the latest standards of care for diabetes. A diabetes self management screening questionaire that allows professionals to identify limitations to self manage diabetes will be presented. A review of the referral system, reimbursement of services, community, state and national resources available for this population will be covered.
